The Church of the Good Shepherd is seeking an Evangelistic Ministry Coordinator for the Chinese Congregation
Required to develop and launch evangelistic ministry, and provide training to house group leaders and fellowship committees of the Chinese congregation.
Has pastoral ministry training or family ministry training.
Has an understanding of the needs of the North American church and family.
Fluent in spoken Cantonese. Knowledge of Mandarin and English an asset.

Position Offered: Children Ministry Worker


The Church of Good Shepherd, a church of 250 average attendances in the city of Vancouver, is currently seeking a Director of Children Ministry. The weekly hours of work are 10 to 15. The children ministry consists of the Sunday school and the Awana Club Ministry. The successful candidate will display a commitment to helping children become disciples of Jesus Christ, a love for children, previous experience in Christian Education, and a four year degree (preferably in Christian Education or a related area).
 
Job Description:

 

  1. Homily (5- 10mins) in English service (9:00-10:30 a.m.; only in Praise worship services, 2-3 times a month), followed by a children program for families attending the service;

  2. Sunday School (11:00-12:30a.m.): ministered to children (Grade 1-6) in ministry and worship;

  3. Help out as leader in Awana, and coordinate and serve as link for children between Awana and Sunday School, and;

  4. Provide children program for 4 parish wide events.

In addition, the potential candidate should be comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment, have an evangelical faith, be a good team player and possess good communication skills. Hourly remuneration is $15.00 but is negotiable subject to the candidate’s experience and qualification.
 

Qualifications:

  • Currently studying in Christian Education or Children Education or equivalent.

  • Experience in serving a children's ministry preferred.

Position Offered: English Evangelist

The Church of the Good Shepherd is currently seeking an English evangelist to join their pastoral team.  Part of the Anglican Church of Canada, Good Shepherd serves members of the Chinese community in the Greater Vancouver area.  We currently have an English speaking congregation of 60 and a Chinese congregation of 300, and are planning to further nurture and grow our English-speaking congregation.

Profile Description:
The candidate must be fluent in English. An understanding of the Chinese language would be an asset.   He/she must have an intimate understanding of Chinese Canadians in the North American context and in particular, an appreciation of the challenges and issues facing Canadian Born Chinese (CBC) and Canadian Raised Chinese (CRC).  Must have experience in outreaching, nurturing and working with CBC’s and CRC’s living in North American.  Is gifted in teaching ministry and able to work in a cross-cultural environment.  Must have an evangelical faith.  Potential candidate should be enthusiastic and a good team player, possesses good communication skills and dedicates to the English ministry.

 Responsible Ministries:  

A.  YOUTH MINISTRY:
Lead and mentor the youths in the church, assist and participate in all English-speaking youth groups; disciple youth leaders by nurturing their spiritual growth in order to prepare them as future leaders of the church, and facilitate their effort in the areas of outreach and evangelism.

  

B.  ENGLISH SERVICE AND OUTREACH:
Under the leadership of the Rector and priest-in-charge, assist and participate in the English service.  Duties include:

  • preach at least once per month,
  • reach out to the English congregation by coordinating visitation of “fringe” parishioners and non-Christian visitors
  • help new church members integrate into the Good Shepherd community

C.  SUNDAY SCHOOL:
Assist and provide spiritual leadership to the Sunday School ministry  as follows:

  • nurture senior high school students in their spiritual growth
  • guide graduated senior highs to join youth groups and English service
  • give series of homily

D.  CHRISTIAN NURTURE:
Share teaching and planning duties of adult Christian education, and share responsibility with the Pastoral team in supervising and training leaders of English-speaking church groups.

  

E.   PARISH LIFE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Duties include:

  • share the administrative workload
  • participate in parish-level activities (i.e. Christmas celebration and other bilingual joint functions) and meetings, in particular, the Church committee, Ministry Council and other relevant church meetings
  • maintain a pastoral relationship with the Chinese congregation, house and fellowship groups

F.   OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
To be agreed upon between the Employer and Employee when the matter arises.
